Art In Ratoath College
The Art Department at Ratoath College aims to develop and promote a sense of personal identity and self-esteem, achieving the expressive, communicative and functional modes of Art, Craft and Design. Students’ pursuit of creativity and cultural enrichment, for the development of the total individual is encouraged.
This is pursued in a fun and active way through structured practical work, building the students qualities of imagination, originality, creativity and problem solving.
Students will have the opportunity to create images and objects using a variety of tools, materials and special equipment. To understand Art, Craft and Design it is important to make things yourself so that you learn and understand by doing.
Art is an Option Subject and can be taken up to Leaving Certificate level. It is also part of the Transition Year Curriculum. We aim to develop aesthetic sensibilities and critical appraisal ability, appreciation and evaluation and to encourage the student to relate to the visual world around them.
Art Teachers Ms. H. Mortimer and Ms. J. Daly strongly encourage their students to take part in Art/Design Competitions, at local, regional and national levels. We recognise theimmense value of competition work as regards the students’ continued development in thisarea. .Extra-curricular art trips to galleries and national sites of artistic value are organised regularly.
Such activities allow students to implement and realize skills and knowledge they have acquired in class, especially when success is achieved. It can contribute to students’ confidence levels, self-esteem and motivation. Recognition gained by such activities can be very positive for the student.
