AoifeK Name  Aoife Kavanagh
Age
25
Class of  2010
LC Points:  415
3rd Level Course:

Business and Management NUI Maynooth

Why did you choose this course?

To be honest I chose this course as it was quite general and not subject specific. Which was good because at 17 I was completely unsure about what I wanted to do. This course has opened a lot of options for me and different directions I could go towards. People in my course have gone into Fashion Buying, Sales, Recruitment, Banking, HR and lots more.

How long is/was the course?

3 years for Honours Level 8 degree

Current role / employment:

I am a sales analyst for Jacob Douwe Egbert Coffee company who own coffee brands such as Kenco / Tassimo / L’OR  /Maxwell House.

Best career achievement to date:

My best career achievement to date would probably be getting the position I am in at the minute at Jacob Douwe Egberts. I am lucky that I get to travel over to our UK office and our offices in the Netherlands quite a bit in my role which is always a plus as I love to travel.

Have you any advice for our current students?

My best advice would be to NOT over-stress about exams and what course to pick when doing your CAO. Exams and school life feel like the most important thing in the world at the time and they are important don’t get me wrong, but if you work hard enough in school and after school you will always find some way to do what you want to – even if your leaving cert results don’t turn out as planned.

Make the most of your years in school because believe me they are over in a heartbeat and 5 years later you will wish you were back in 6th year planning what dress you were going to wear for the debs or making your plans for the summer! J

Enjoy the time you have in Ratoath College, I definitely did and I am still as close with the same group of people from my year!

Best memory of Ratoath College:

One of my best memories had to have been my two friends performing ‘Gangsters Paradise’ at the school talent show and all the teachers coming out on to the stage dressed as rappers in a car built in the school…even Fr. PJ knew all the words J.
