Learning from Home
Dear Students, Parents & Guardians.
As we once again start doing our learning and teaching from home, we’re writing to you today to lay out clearly for you what we hope everyone will be able to achieve over the next few weeks.
While this is not the ideal scenario, we all have a responsibility to make sure we make the best of it.
We have updated the school website with a new page so centralise all future information and updates for parents and guardians. This is available via the button on the homepage.
The School Day
All students will be expected to take part in their normal school day and follow their normal school timetable – beginning with period one at 08.50 and ending at 15.30, or 13.15 on Fridays.
Teachers will post material, tasks, assignments, videos or hold live classes on Teams at the times you would expect to have them each day according to your normal timetable.
Remote Learning Platforms & Online Accounts
In general, your teachers will continue to use the platform you are used to.
So, for 2nd, 3rd and 6th years – you can expect your teachers to continue to use Schoology – although all live classes will happen on Teams. Your teachers will send you guidance and instructions on Schoology.
For 1st Years, TYs and 5th Years, you can expect your teachers to continue to use Teams.
If you have any issues with your school Schoology or Office 365 accounts, contact your Moltóir for assistance:
Access to the internet/devices
If you are having difficulty with your internet access or with accessing a device for remote learning, please contact your Moltóir as soon as possible to let them know.
For those struggling with your internet connection, note that, as in the previous period of remote learning, a number of mobile phone networks have committed to allowing unlimited data for bill pay users. You should contact your mobile network for more information.
It may also be helpful to note that, as you may have noticed on social media over the last number of days, games consoles – such as Playstation 4/Xbox - can also be used to access both Schoology and Teams for remote learning using the built in web browser.
Children with Special Educational Needs
There are a range of supports available for parents of students with SEN. More information on the supports available from the NCSE is available here.
Looking after ourselves and each other in the weeks ahead is going to be very important, as it has been throughout the period of this crisis that we are living through.
The DES has created a central store of resources to support parents and students in looking after their Wellbeing during this difficult period and the school’s Pastoral Care team remains available to you.
If you feel you are in need of support – contact your Moltóir.
Thank you to those students and parents who were able to come to the school on Saturday to collect their boxes/books. A number of students were unable to do this, so we have arranged a second time period for this to happen on Wednesday, 13th January, 2021:
- Junior Students – 10.00-12.00
- Senior Students – 12.00-14.00
Senior Cycle Options
A reminder that the deadline for submission of Senior Cycle Options forms is this Wednesday - 13th January.
We look forward to returning to the school building in a few weeks’ time. Until then, we trust that – working together – we can make the best of a challenging situation by learning from home.
Please ensure you continue to follow the public health advice by staying at home so that this period of school closure can be as short as possible.
